Unable to launch Excel from Sharepoint

If you getting the below error when trying open an excel from a sharepoint library, the the issue might be because you don have the Sharepoint OpenDocument class as you add-on. These can be caused by either you are using 64bit version of the IE or the add-on is not there.

Solution – just use 32bit version of IE or repair your outlook. If your share point is running on version 2010, it is better to install a Microsoft Office 2010 for better experience. 😉

The document could not be opened for editing. A Microsoft SharePoint Foundation compatible application could not be found to edit the document

ICAClient Entrust.net error on Ubuntu

I know some user will get this error. I’m writing this as a reminder to myself as well as sharing the solution with other people.

If you getting the error below, here is the steps to resolves this (http://scruss.com/blog/2006/12/14/when-you-really-havent-chosen-not-to-trust-citrix-mac-os-x-and-entrust-certificates/)

“You have not chosen to trust “Entrust.net Secure Server Certification Authority:, the issuer of the server’s security certificate’.”

Note: there is an additional step that I need to configure on my machine, which is chmod +r to the cert under the keystore\cacerts\ folders.

Installing Netbeans 7.x.x on Ubuntu 12.04

I had a problem installing Netbeans on Ubuntu 12.04 if i’m using openjdk.

Here is the steps I took to rectify the issue

1 – Install oracle jdk using the command below

sudo apt-get purge openjdk-7-jre icedtea-7-plugin
sudo add-apt-repository ppa:webupd8team/java
sudo apt-get update
sudo apt-get install oracle-jdk7-installer

2 – install netbeans – make sure you have the right permission for it (chmod +x) Thanks zhuyangba

sudo sh ./netbeans

Update: Its in the repo, just do ‘sudo apt-get install netbeans’ ( Kudos to Mark L.)

Recycling Electronic Products

I’ve wrote sometime ago about recycling and most of it are related to our daily consume waste product such as bottles, plastics & papers. Since a lot more of electronics product has invaded our life, I feel it is right to share about recycling of these products. But first, let us watch this video 🙂

Now, you know how precious your electronic product is even if its only worth a few Ringgits! It’s never too late! PIKOM has launched E-Waster Recycling Program to create awareness on the need to recycle among general public.

PIKOM together with the Department of Environment is embarking on an E-Waste Recycling Campaign with the aim to raise awareness on the need to recycle among the general public. Collection centres have been set up at selected PIKOM PCFairs to collect electronic waste for recycling. Please click here to read more in Green IT Shaping The Industry.

An electronics component are made up from different type of element such as Mercury, Gold, Tin and etc. Elements such as mercury, which can be found in CFL bulb or old CRT monitor/TV, is poisonous and very dangerous to the human if it’s not disposed correctly.  By recycling at these location stated in the link above, they can correctly identify this elements and disposed it accordingly. They will also will process these products and segregate these elements/components to few categories such as “re-usable” or “recycle” or “dispose” and etc.

By doing these, there will less need to dig for new resources and fill up our dump site again which is scarce by hours! So let’s save our planet by recycling!

Review: YTL Yes 4G

Its been days if not weeks, the internet has failed me at home. I’m getting the worst speed ever since the last few days and it really bothered me and my work. I knew that there is a speed degradation currently due to the internet submarine cable has issues. I also noticed that since Unifi was launched, I’m feeling my 1Mbps is not performing as it used to be. Maybe I’m used to a more faster internet line in the office though I didn’t think this is really the reason since as I remember, loading a manga page doesn’t require me to wait for 30-45 seconds and few refresh!

Anyway, enough of ranting. So, since the slowness is affecting my life and my work, I decide to look for options (as Unifi only available Q2 next year!). I’ve used mobile broadband from Maxis and Celcom and I’m not impressed. So, in my mind I have P1 4G and also Yes 4G as I heard quite a good review on these 2. As I’m not looking for a permanent solutions, I opt for Yes 4G package, which is on per use basis and I really delighted with it! Well…until i realized that I might be spending more than I expected later. huhuh~~

Here is the screenshots of the speed that I’m getting. On Average it’s around 150KB/s and the max I manage to get is 600KB/s! woohoo!!

  1. Awesome speed (as seen in the screen above)
  2. No P2p throttling
  3. Mobile
  1. If you a heavy user/downloader, at 3 sen/MB for 1GB it will cost u RM 30. Just imagine if 20GB, how much will you spent a month.
  2. That’s all for me 😛
