I’ve wrote sometime ago about recycling and most of it are related to our daily consume waste product such as bottles, plastics & papers. Since a lot more of electronics product has invaded our life, I feel it is right to share about recycling of these products. But first, let us watch this video

Now, you know how precious your electronic product is even if its only worth a few Ringgits! It’s never too late! PIKOM has launched E-Waster Recycling Program to create awareness on the need to recycle among general public.

PIKOM together with the Department of Environment is embarking on an E-Waste Recycling Campaign with the aim to raise awareness on the need to recycle among the general public. Collection centres have been set up at selected PIKOM PCFairs to collect electronic waste for recycling. Please click here to read more in Green IT Shaping The Industry.

http://www.pikom.org.my/cms/General.asp?whichfile=Announcements&ProductID=22597&CatID=

An electronics component are made up from different type of element such as Mercury, Gold, Tin and etc. Elements such as mercury, which can be found in CFL bulb or old CRT monitor/TV, is poisonous and very dangerous to the human if it’s not disposed correctly. By recycling at these location stated in the link above, they can correctly identify this elements and disposed it accordingly. They will also will process these products and segregate these elements/components to few categories such as “re-usable” or “recycle” or “dispose” and etc.

By doing these, there will less need to dig for new resources and fill up our dump site again which is scarce by hours! So let’s save our planet by recycling!

Its been days if not weeks, the internet has failed me at home. I’m getting the worst speed ever since the last few days and it really bothered me and my work. I knew that there is a speed degradation currently due to the internet submarine cable has issues. I also noticed that since Unifi was launched, I’m feeling my 1Mbps is not performing as it used to be. Maybe I’m used to a more faster internet line in the office though I didn’t think this is really the reason since as I remember, loading a manga page doesn’t require me to wait for 30-45 seconds and few refresh!

Anyway, enough of ranting. So, since the slowness is affecting my life and my work, I decide to look for options (as Unifi only available Q2 next year!). I’ve used mobile broadband from Maxis and Celcom and I’m not impressed. So, in my mind I have P1 4G and also Yes 4G as I heard quite a good review on these 2. As I’m not looking for a permanent solutions, I opt for Yes 4G package, which is on per use basis and I really delighted with it! Well…until i realized that I might be spending more than I expected later. huhuh~~

Here is the screenshots of the speed that I’m getting. On Average it’s around 150KB/s and the max I manage to get is 600KB/s! woohoo!!

Pros:

Awesome speed (as seen in the screen above)

No P2p throttling

Mobile

Cons:

If you a heavy user/downloader, at 3 sen/MB for 1GB it will cost u RM 30. Just imagine if 20GB, how much will you spent a month.

That’s all for me

I wrote back in Oct 2010, about the Greater KL MRT project and really warmed up to that idea. Not only does it address a few issues that we are currently facing (traffic jams, air pollutions) it also open possibilities for the commuters. Though the new MRT does not cover all area of Greater KL, but the shuttle service does make up for it. But, this doesn’t come without a price. I expect once the MRT project completed, the tariff will be increased as well as the time it takes to commute (due to the increase number of stations).

So how can we reduce the time and cost to commute. The answer will be bicycles

Being an ex-commuter myself, I always find it difficult and time consuming whenever I had to transfer line or taking a bus eventhough sometimes, the destination is just a few blocks away and walking would be not an options. Imagine yourself reaching your destination all sweaty! You wouldn’t want that right

With bicycles, not only you don’t need to spend your time waiting for your shuttle (especially on peak hours when its jam-packed with human sardines!) you get your daily exercise and also save cost But, I wonder whether is it possible to bring bicycles on LRT.

So, with that in mind, I sent an email to RAPIDKL to seek an answer. I’m very pleased with RAPIDKL CSC as they always reply your questions or feedback quite fast. This is what I receive from them.

Though, the answer is not what I was hoping for (I was thinking of bringing a mountain bike on it though ) but I guess this will do for the time being. Once, more and more people are looking for this kind of options, they can’t just leave it be and I bet they will start re-think about this. Lets hope we will see this in near future.

Note: The current KL city infra is not really bicycle friendly (no bicycles parking nor bicycles alley), so be very careful on the road and always practice a safe travel. Wear protective gears and always aware of the surroundings. Have and have a safe journey :)

how to resolves DHCP service stopped on RODC

Hey All,

Just want to share with you some problem I faced with running DHCP on a RODC.

When you install a DHPC role on a server, it will create a local group name “DHCP Administrators” and also “DHCP Users”.

RODC is a new & exciting features on Windows Server 2008. (http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/cc753223(WS.10).aspx) Now, we don’t have to bother what the local admin are doing in our server at the site.

Now, I have a problem when installing a DHCP on RODC. As mentioned earlier, when you installed a DHCP on a server, it will create a local DHCP group(DHCP Administrators & DHCP Users). Since, RODC is pretty much a DC, there is no local group on the server and since it’s also a READ-ONLY DC, it cannot create the account itself.

You will notice that when your DHCP service is stopped when you install it on RODC and when you check the event log, you’ll notice error 1035 and 1036. This error shows, there exist a authentication problem.

So what shall we do in order to resolve this?

Easy! Just create the DHCP groups in DC

Here’s the step

Login to any RWDC

Open Active Directory User & Computers (ADUC)

Under the Users OU > Create group name “DHCP Administartors” & “DHCP Users” with the group scope is set to “Domain Local”

Let the replication kicks in

Voila! Your DHCP service is now automatically started

By 2020, seven out of 10 Malaysians are expected to live in urban areas like Greater KL, which, according to unofficial sources, will have an immediate population of about 7.2 million and with the rapid property development in Klang Valley area, the infrastructure can’t cope with it.

One of the entry points project under the National Key Economic Area or NKEA is the Greater KL MRT to address the poor and inadequate public transport coverage in Kuala Lumpur. It’s also a factor to push Kuala Lumpur to be on par with other developed cities. It is by far the largest infrastructure project in Malaysia with 141 KM of three new corridors which integrates with the existing systems – KTM, LRT, Monorail & STAR.

Pros:

Better public transport

Generates estimated 130,000 new jobs

Hopefully lessen the car on the road

Better and cleaner air and lesser noise.

Concerns:

The coverage – is it enough?

the effectiveness of the system

sustainability of the new system.

Coverage

The new MRT system will integrated all those other system and also feeder bus to cover all the residential and commercial area. Based on the image given above, some places such as Puchong still not integrated. I live in Gombak and work in Cyberjaya. Many of my colleagues and their friends also commute more than 50KM everyday, some from Shah Alam, Gombak, Keramat & Selayang and I bet they are many more others like us. Having an fast and efficient transport in Cyberjaya and few parts of Putrajaya does help to increase the adoption of public transport.

System effectiveness

I used to be an avid public transport but I’ve stopped…ermm…less use when it tooks me an hour plus just to get to my office in Jalan Ampang which most of the time (40 mins) waiting to hop into the train and don’t let me start with KTM Komuter. I’m not sure how it is now for both LRT & Komuter during peak hours but I believe it doesn’t changed much from what I heard.

System sustainability

Greater KL is expected to have a population of 7.8 million and it will keep on increasing. Will the MRT is enough to cater the ever increasing number of population? if its not, we will see the same thing happen again. People will start driving their own much more and the hectic traffic will start all over again.

We have an issue with one of our IBM xSeries 345 (model type 8670) server where the server went to cold boot and showing the diagnostic lights as “OVER SPEC”. The server sometimes able to boot up but it will shutdown itself when it reach RAID card checks on BIOS or when its abit to load OS.

The Solution: Change the PSU Chasis/Cage (the one that holds the PSU)

Ever wonder how green is when we recycle paper? Here are some facts :)

For every 1 tonne of paper we recycle we

save 17 mature trees
7,000 gallons or 26.5 cubic meter of water
3 cubic yards of landfill
2 barrels of oil
4,100 KWatts of electricity - enough to power average house for 5 months!

Ever wonder how green is when we recycle paper? Here are some facts

For every 1 tonne of paper we recycle we

save 17 mature trees

7,000 gallons or 26,500 liters of water!

3 cubic yards of landfill

2 barrels or 318 liters of oil – you can make 4 trips from Johor Bahru to Bukit Kayu Hitam!

4,100 KWatts of electricity – enough to power average malaysian house for 9 months!

Recycling paper instead of making it from new material generates 74 percent less air pollution and uses 50 percent less water.

So how many is 1 tonne of paper? it’s about 400 ream of 80 gsm paper or about 200,000 80gsm sheets!

Just think about it
